Let’s clear up our terminology, and understand Paul’s famous and oft-quoted statement in context of the New Testament.
There is still Law.
Everyone knows Romans 6:14 and Galatians 3:25 and 5:18.
But what about all of this?!?!?
“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2
“…through Christ Jesus the law of the spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.” Romans 8:2
“the sinful mind…does not submit to God’s law.” Romans 8:7
“…law brings wrath. And where there is no law there is no trangression.” Romans 4:15
–but there is sin/transgression so law must exist
–wrath is coming (Col 3:6; 1 Thess 2:16)
“…the perfect law that gives freedom…” James 1:25; 2:12
“if you keep the royal law found in scripture (OT), love your neighbor as yourself, you are doing right.” James 2:8
“Everyone who sins breaks the law.” 1 John 3:4
“This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts.” Hebrews 8:10; Hebrews 10:16; Jeremiah 31
Since God and Jesus are still reigning, there is still law.
Since there is still right and wrong, there is still law.
Yes, we are under Grace. No, we are not under the Law of Moses.
But guess what Christians, you can’t get rid of Law so easy.
