A Look at the Headlines

Being so busy, I don’t have time to read the news.  I hardly ever watch TV news or read a paper, but I get most of my news from the internet.  Even with internet convenience, I often have to limit myself to headlines only.  So, this is what has been going on lately

Conservatives use CPAC as rallying cry (from cnn.com)

Wow!  I was unaware that Sleep Apnea had become such a political issue.  I didn’t read it so I don’t know if there is some major Sleep Apnea legislation coming or maybe it has a metaphorical meaning.  I am curious as to what the diference in belief is between liberals and conservatives concerning the CPAC machine.

Dutch Government falls over Afghan Rift (cnn.com)

I can relate to this.  Once there was a big rug on the floor that had a rift in it and I tripped over it.  It happens alot, actually.  Well, I certainly hope they fix that rift.  I don’t know how to knit but surely someone in Holland/Netherlands knows how to patch that up.  Plus, if they had not left it laying around, no one would have fallen.  People, let’s all be more careful with our afghans.

Lawyer regrets calling prof ‘wack’ (cnn.com)

Again, I didn’t read this, but I can sense the remorse.  Often, a word like “loony” or “nutcase” is much more appropriate in a situation like this.  Hopefully, said lawyer will have a chance to use a better term next time.

Jamie McMurray sits on pole in California week after winning Daytona 500 (espn.com)

Ahh, from the world of sports.  It isn’t clear if McMurray was being punished or reward by being made to sit on a pole.  HA! Just kidding, This is obviously referring to flagpole sitting.  I am not real familiar with flag-pole sitting but it seems to be an exciting event. I can’t believe they found 500 people willing to do this in Daytona.  I do recall the alt-hit “flagpole sitta” from the 90s, though.

Woods apologizes, heads back to rehab (cnn.com)

How sad!  Apparently this great athlete (hockey star, maybe) did some bad things involving alcohol or drugs and ended up in rehab.  He is sorry, and therefore apologized.  That pretty much sums it up.

Joe the Plumber slams McCain (cnn.com)

Actually, I am not sure if this is sports related or politics.  I vaguely recall a wrestler by that name, who carried a plunger into the ring.  But McCain definitely sounds like a tough, wrestler type person. Apparently it was a big match.  Must have been a Wrestlemania type thing.  Congratulations to “The Plumber” on his big victory.

Will converting to an IRA Roth help you? (must be religion section from usatoday.com)

I love headlines with a question mark. So much to meditate on. I have heard of the Ba’hai faith but not the IRA Roth.  Except for those in Ireland.  I would think that converting to IRA Roth could be dangerous since they always seem to be involved in bombings and shootings over there.  I will stick with Jesus, thank you very much.

True Love

Don’t forget that True Love is not defined by Shakespeare, Hollywood, or Jewelry commercials.

–“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

–“Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13

–“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: “While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8

–“This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers.” 1 John 3:16

God is Love and has always has been Love:

“Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commands. Deut 7:9

“O LORD, God of Israel, there is no God like you in heaven above or on earth below—you who keep your covenant of love with your servants who continue wholeheartedly in your way. I Kings 8:23

“O LORD, God of heaven, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with those who love him and obey his commands,” Neh 1:5

Snow Day!

We got 3-5 inches overnight.  Eva played outside a little this morning but the wind is blowing too hard to play outside.  Tomorrow should be a good fort/sledding/snowball day.

We are expected to get a few more inches this afternoon/evening as Blizzard conditions arrive (winds over 35 mph).

Eva making a snow angel:

our little angel

Wife just made some beignets.  Already played CandyLand with the kids and will be watching a movie soon, “Cars”, I think.

It’s really getting nasty outside now.  We already cancelled our evening Bible Study.

The trees were coated with snow this morning.  The wind has been blowing it off lately.

The final total is to be between 12-16 inches when all is said and done late tonight/early tomorrow morning.

A Confession and Apology to My Italian Friends

and to the beautiful country of Italy.

I have to get some things off my chest.  Confession is indeed good for the soul, and for the whole person.

For the past year, we have used a huge plastic container of minced garlic that stays in the fridge (recently tossed it out).  I don’t recall the last time we used our garlic press on fresh garlic.  That is sad.

We have purchased and eaten (mainly for convenience sake) frozen pasta meals that are either cooked in a skillet, or (GASP!) the microwave.  They don’t taste great, but we keep buying them.

My wife and I both commented and agreed recently that the pizza at Chuck E. Cheese was “good!”  Ugh! What were we thinking?!

Although we buy Parmesan and grate it ourselves, there have been a couple of occasions when we used the Kraft Parmesan cheese in the green plastic container.  Forgive!

Even when we cook Italian, a lot of it comes out of a can.

We have been away too long and have developed nasty habits.  So Sorry.

sigh….there….I said it….I am sorry!

Colts/Saints Super Bowl: Biblical Breakdown

The Case for New Orleans:

It might seem obvious at first that the Christian should root for the New Orleans Saints, after all, “saints” are holy ones, those set apart by God.

Much like the martyred saints of Revelation (1), Saint fans have cried, “How Long?”

Of course, the city has suffered greatly as a result of Hurricane Katrina, and God cares for the broken-hearted (2) and rebuilding/restoring houses (3), such as the SuperDome.

The Case against New Orleans:

The term, “saint” has also been corrupted in the common vernacular to refer to a special, higher class Christian.  And as the Bible clearly states, “Pride goes before a fall” (4).

The city doesn’t have a very saintly reputation.  It seems to be set apart more for lasciviousness and debauchery.  And sin can only lead to death (5).

The Case for Indianapolis:

But let’s not forget that the book of Revelation also has a Colt/Horse, and the Messiah, Divine Warrior is riding upon its back (6).

Jesus also chose to ride a colt when entering Jerusalem as King that last week of his life (7).

But what of this Peyton Manning?  He seems to have an intuition as to what will happen next…..prophetic even….while at line…..as the play clock winds down.

He is able to thwart their attempts.  He seems to know the heart and intent of every safety and linebacker (8,9,10).

He has a famous father. His own people are against him, having grown up in New Orleans. He is facing his father’s people and his own people.  Sound familiar?

The case against Indianapolis:

In John’s Revelation chapter 6 (11), horses/colts symbolized war, death, and famine.

1 Samuel 2 (12) records the prophecy of the Lord’s Judgment against the House of Eli, and of course, Peyton’s brother is Eli.  Unless it refers to the rest of the family (parents and brother Cooper) who are Saint fans.  This one is unclear yet the game may hinge on this prophecy.

The Final Pick:

Henceforth, from much Bible study and prayer, my Super Bowl prophecy shalt be-eth that Indianapolis defeateth New Orleans:  Colts 37-Saints 31!

  7. Mark 11:4-7–“They went and found a colt outside in the street, tied at a doorway. As they untied it, 5some people standing there asked, “What are you doing, untying that colt?” 6They answered as Jesus had told them to, and the people let them go. 7When they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks over it, he sat on it.”

Its rider held a bow, and he was given a crown, and he rode out as a conqueror bent on conquest. When the Lamb opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, “Come!” 4Then another horse came out, a fiery red one. Its rider was given power to take peace from the earth and to make men slay each other. To him was given a large sword.”
  12. 1 Samuel 2:30-33–“”Therefore the LORD, the God of Israel, declares: ‘I promised that your house and your father’s house would minister before me forever.’ But now the LORD declares: ‘Far be it from me! Those who honor me I will honor, but those who despise me will be disdained. 31 The time is coming when I will cut short your strength and the strength of your father’s house, so that there will not be an old man in your family line 32 and you will see distress in my dwelling. Although good will be done to Israel, in your family line there will never be an old man. 33 Every one of you that I do not cut off from my altar will be spared only to blind your eyes with tears and to grieve your heart, and all your descendants will die in the prime of life.”
