Well, the Beastie Boys are still plugging along and it has been 25 years since they appeared on MTV with the “Fight for your Right to Party” video. It was amusing, big hit, fun.
They released (or “dropped” as cool people say) a new album this week complete with a funny video that stars many funny actors and actresses like Will Ferrell, Seth Rogen, Will Arnett, Dwight K. Shrute, Maya Rudolph, Elijah Wood, Jack Black, Ted Danson, Steve Buscemi and a cast of thousands while reminiscing the early days of “Fight for your Right.”
So, it’s time to be be nostalgic. What are your favorite songs? Do you think they are evil incarnate?
Do you have a favorite lyric (clean version only, please)? Mine would be, “Flame on! I’m gone. I’m so sweet like a nice Bon-Bon. Came out rapping when I was born, mom said rock it til the break of dawn” No idea what that means, but it cracks me up.
I love the layer upon layer of samples and hooks. I wouldn’t want all my music to sound that way, but the noise and the rhythm usually go together so well. And they have some classic guitar licks, as well.
Do you remember when “Fight for your Right” came out?
