Special Days

In churches across the land Mother’s will be celebrated today.  And that’s cool.

They may get flowers.  The sermons may talk about the Virtuous Woman of the proverbs, or Hannah, or good moms.  We might sing, “God give us Christian Homes.”  The prayers might reference mothers.

Next month on Father’s Day, we will do pretty much the same thing.  Maybe talk about God as Father.  Preach to encourage dads.  Sing about God as Father.  Pray about God as Father.

On the Fourth of July, some churches may sing “God Bless America” and preach on freedoms, or what makes a godly nation.  We will hear prayers (as we should) for our leaders.  We will talk about the freedom we have in Christ at the Table.

Some Christian organizations have proposed Orphan Days for certain Sundays, where we emphasize all the scripture about taking care of widows and orphans and the poor.

This fall around Thanksgiving, we might have a service where all the songs, prayers, and the sermon emphasize gratitude.  Won’t that be great!

But…IF ANY CHURCH HAS A SERVICE IN DECEMBER WHERE THEY SING AND PREACH AND READ AND PRAY ABOUT THE BIRTH OF JESUS THEY ARE ALL SINNERS, REBELLIOUS AND WILL BE LOOKED DOWN UPON BY A NUMBER OF CHURCHES THAT REFUSE TO DO SO (at least in December)!
